Tips for Team Effectiveness
In today’s business world, the
ability to work in a team is becoming more and more essential. There are many ways in which the teams of
today can work in a well-organized manner.
First, communication is the backbone of success in a team setting;
without open conversation, problems are never solved (Jappreet, 2011).
Second, planning is absolutely imperative in a group setting. Third, every member of the team must be given
a chance to participate and feel that he or she is needed.
When one thinks of communication, the
first thought that generally comes to mind is the act of speaking. However, listening is the most important part
of the communication process; this is even more important in a group setting (Jappreet, 2011).
Body languages also conveys messages that may be different from those
being spoken. By communicating
effectively, teams can better accomplish the goals they have.
Planning is extremely important in
order to synchronize the different schedules people may have. Often, group leaders want to simply
improvise; however, improvisation frequently creates more problems and causes
more wasted time than planning would have caused (Heathfield, 2014).
When planning, it is important that deadlines are set and then
kept. Without a timetable, goals and
plans usually become simply hopes and wishes.
To effectively work within a team,
communication and planning are crucial.
Communication allows people from different backgrounds and with
different ideas to accomplish amazing feats.
Planning helps the goals and visions organizations to be put in practice
(Heathfield, 2014).
These two simple tips, because of the simplicity of them, are sometimes overlooked
and seen as unimportant. However, this
advice may be the difference between success and failure in the business
world.
